Resistance fighter, innkeeper and handyman
Marius Fiil is most famous for his exploits as a resistance fighter. But most of his time was spent on innkeeping at Hvidsten Inn. Marius took over the inn with his wife, Gudrun, in 1925. He was good at talking to people and Gudrun was a talented cook, so the inn flourished – that meant extensions were needed. Marius built them himself. Some of the unusual buildings that comprise Hvidsten Inn today were built by Marius Fiil with his own hands. Often he used recycled materials that he obtained by bartering with locals. Some of the panels and doors in the inn are from a bank in Randers, and some of the benches come from the Jewish synagogue in Randers.
