THERE IS A HOLE IN THE WALL IN THE STATE PRISON OF EAST JUTLAND

In East Jutland's high-security, modern prison, there is a large hole in the wall. The hole is an altarpiece created by Øivind Nygård (1948-2010) in 2004-06. An altarpiece in a prison chapel. As in the case of any other national building, in the costing of the prison, 1.5% of the total construction cost was earmarked for artistic decoration. The Danish Arts Foundation contributed additional funds for works by Øivind Nygård, Christian Lemmerz, Kirsten Ortwed, Hanne Varming and Peter Hentze. Their works are now locked away from both typical art-goers and the general public. Only the inmates and staff have access to them.
