Architects should not be archaeologists. They should base their work on the present. Be modern. That was the fashion around 1900. Anton Rosen became the foremost representative for the new style in Danish architecture, which literally took pride in bent iron. In Germany, it was called Jugend, in France, Art Nouveau. The Savoy Hotel is one of the most interesting and stands out from the row of facades along Vesterbrogade. A face in the crowd. Decorative details contrast with the simple sweeping lines, the golden ornaments bring the green copper to life and the facade lifts over the central section in a proud wave. Voila, the 20th century has begun.
