The Danish home from home
For many, Vennelyst is the ultimate in Danish feel-good. Tourists visit the area in summer, taking photos over the hedges. Amidst the blooming, well-tended gardens, the houses on the allotments are homely in all their quaint quirkiness. The occupants are of all ages, and all come to enjoy themselves and relax. The allotment garden society is more than a century old, and nowadays contains both young people and immigrants to Denmark, who also appreciate the allotment as a home away from home. Just next to Vennelyst, a forthcoming allotment garden museum will contain examples of allotment gardens over the last 100 years, and will allow tourists to enter and talk to the occupants.
