Cultural heritage in local society

In 2005-2011 the Heritage Agency and the Realdania Foundation are conducting two projects in eight local authority areas where local cultural heritage is used as a lever to raise the profile of the area and attract more citizens, business enterprises and tourists.

Experience from the projects will be made available to other local authorities wishing to incorporate cultural heritage more directly into local planning.

Cultural heritage from a child's viewpoint

Culture for children is a high priority for the Danish government. All children in Denmark should have access to the experiences and knowledge offered by museums and other cultural institutions. The Heritage Agency provides financial support for many museum projects specifically aimed at children.

The Heritage Agency also collaborates with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Family and Consumer Affairs on coordinated measures to strengthen children's culture in Network for children and culture.

Digital dissemination and accessibility

Digital media offer unprecedented opportunities to research and disseminate cultural heritage.

The Heritage Agency operates a number of databases that present a national overview of various aspects of Denmark's cultural heritage. The functionality and design of the databases are subject to ongoing development.

In addition, the Heritage Agency can financially support museums wishing to digitalise analogue collections and registers, primarily by scanning them and cultural institutions that develop new Internet-based dissemination methods.
